Polish Freedom and Independence Cross awarded to Hubert Opperman in 1985. The cross was instituted by "Counter-president" in Exile in London, Juliusz Nowina-Sokolnicki in 1985, on the 40th anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany. Gold plated metal cross with ring at top. A crowned Polish eagle surrounded by barbed wire in the centre. Features inscription, "RP / ZA : WOLNOSC I : NIEPODLEGLOSC (Polish Republic for freedom and independence) : 1. IX / 1939".
