The main objects of satire here are General Benjamin Butler, parading through the carnival as a clown, as well as the leading figures involved in both the Prohibition and Woman's Rights Movement, including Belva Lockwood, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony. Many suffragists were attracted to the Temperance movement, believing that alcohol led to the dissolution of families and the further subjugation of women.
