Polychrome anatomical model of human body

This model, entirely disassemblable, was made by the French physician Louis Thomas Jérôme Auzoux (1797-1878) who, breaking away from the tradition of Italian wax modellers, had the insight and the ability to produce models in a material similar to papier-mache, so very much lighter and easier to handle. After various experiments, in 1830 Auzoux realized his masterpiece: a model molded on a tall corpse, which could be completely dismantled into 139 pieces and with over 1,700 labeled anatomical details. This and other models became part of the collection of Comparative Anatomy of the Istituto Veneto di Scienze Lettere ed Arti, curated by Enrico Filippo Trois. Later on, in 1923, they joined the collections of the Museum of Natural History of Venice (I.V.S.L.A. Collection).
