In each of the four corners of the central field is a stylized lamp or candelabra with lighted candles. The presence of fire/lamps is suggestive of the protective powers of flame. Fire is an enduring ritual element of central Asian culture. For example, a lighted lamp may be carried around the heads of a bride and groom at their wedding as a talismanic blessing.
