The decoration of the Pompeian Room is inspired by the houses of Pompeii, an Italian city devastated by the eruption of the volcano Vesuvius. After the discovery of the city's archaeological remains in the 18th century, the Pompeian motifs became a famous domestic decoration theme in several countries. The red and gold leather furniture is original from the Baron de Nova Friburgo era.
