Port wine glass bottle with stretched body and thinner neck more suitable for storage in wine cellars.
Handmade bottles were produced between the 17th and 19th centuries. Before labels were used, the bottles were marked with lime, chalk or ink and a few specimens have engravings with the owners' initials or with a family coat of arms. Over these centuries, several types of bottles are known: differences in bottleneck shape and bottle capacity match different periods. From cheap, uneven roundish bottles to regular, cylinder-shaped ones, Port bottles have known a gradual development for wine storage under optimal conditions.
