The ends of the tube house the eyepiece and lens. It is screwed into the pillar with an arm. The pillar is cuboid with a rack mechanism along its rear face, which moves the stage with the help of a side screw. The stage is round with holes for magnifying glasses or clips, and a central hole allowing light to pass through. The flat mirror is located toward the lower end. At the very bottom of the pillar is an articulated joint system allowing the instrument to tilt.
