The Plaza Mayor (main square) in León is in the old city, in the popular Húmedo neighborhood. It looks like any other Spanish square, typical of those found in many other Spanish cities, but it stands out as one of the best preserved; there have been no significant alterations to the original design since it was first built. At one time it was known as Bread Square, due to the sheer number of bakeries and ovens in the surrounding area.
In the summer months, the main square is an ideal meeting point, and the bars extend their terraces into the street to serve tourists and locals alike.
