The Vanport Building in downtown Portland celebrates the heritage and spirit of Vanport, along with the lessons that community can teach us today. The Vanport building houses Portland State University’s College of Education, the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health, Portland Community College’s dental hygiene and dental assisting programs, and the City of Portland's Bureau of Planning & Sustainability.
The Vanport Mosaic was part of the advocacy effort to name the building in honor of the community that called Vanport home and lost everything in the 1948 flood that destroyed the city. We created a permanent tribute to the Spirit of Vanport in the lobby. Learn more about the Vanport Mosaic tribute to the Spirit of Vanport at min. 8:30-12:30 of this video.
