Chae Yong-shin is an excellent painter who painted portraits of various people, including the portrait of the Joseon Dynasty, and the nobleman, the chief of the righteous army general, and the woman of high incision, as well as records. Following the traditional portrait technique, he developed a unique style of portrait painting influenced by Western painting and modern photography.
This work depicts the portrait of the late Joseon Dynasty Neo-Confucian scholar 'Jeon Woo' with a fine brush, and uses many brush tips to express irregularities, perspectives, and light and shade, showing that these details were influenced by Western painting and modern photography technology.
