Rijksmuseum van Oudheden
Leiden, Netherlands

Roman portrait head of a man, made from fine-grained white marble with a brownish-yellow patina. The front of the face has been damaged. The hairstyle reflects the fashion of late antiquity: hair shaved very short, with a thin beard and moustache. The eyes are extremely expressive, with deeply drilled pupils. The piece probably comes from the eastern region of the Roman Empire.
