Despite some wear and retouching in certain areas, there is no doubt that this is a major portrait painted by Gerhard ter Borch shortly after 1656. It is signed with a monogram.

Artist info: Gerhard ter Borch was a well travelled man; he started his education as an artist under his father in his native town Zwolle, obtained most of his skills in Amsterdam and Haarlem and then concluded his years of study in Spain, Italy and England.
