Portrait of a Gentleman

1st quarter 19th century

The Walters Art Museum

The Walters Art Museum
Baltimore, United States

Waist-length, three-quarters to right portrait of a man, with eyes towards the viewer. The sitter has white hair worn long over the ears, and wears a dark blue coat, white vest and white stock.

The plait of hair on the back, surrounded a blue enamel field, is light brown. Since the sitter is shown with powdered hair, this perhaps belongs to another person.
