Portrait of a Girl Dressed in Blue

This 'Girl dressed in blue' is one of the best-known children's portraits from the 17th century. The delicate portrait is worked out in great detail. Johannes Verspronck lived and worked in Haarlem, like his contemporary Frans Hals. But his painting style was quite different from that of his illustrious fellow citizen. Where Hals favoured a bold brushstroke applied with flair, Verspronck opted for a refined style and a barely visible brushstroke.
