This is a moving scene: the face is astonishingly expressive, emphasised by the movement of the neck in an extension of her whole body. You can imagine her cry to Heaven shown by her physical distress. Goya's pupils painted sickness with great realism: the very white face stands out against the dark background and nothing disturbs the simplicity of the composition.
