About the author: Teodor Axentowicz, (1859 Braszów in Transylvania – 1938 Cracow), The leading representative of the Young Poland Modernism and modern art, painter, draughtsman and graphic artist. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, in the studios of prominent academic teachers, such as e.g. Aleksander Wagner, as well as in private studios in Paris, which resulted in the solid, realistic craftsmanship of his painting, filtered through the experience of the French Impressionism. Professor of the School of Fine Arts in Cracow (since 1900 the Academy of Fine Arts), one of its reformers and rectors. He was active in the Young Poland Society of Polish Artists “Sztuka”, which he founded and where he exhibited a lot of his works. He was also a member of “Secesja” (Art Nouveau) in Vienna. He was famous for his portraits, mainly women’s, where he was able to combine neoromantic psychological depth of a model with the Art Nouveau decorative composition. He was an extraordinary connoisseur of the Huculi folklore and its illustrator, the author of posters advertising exhibitions of the Society of Polish Artists “Sztuka”, he designed stained glass, collaborated in realisation of Racławice Panorama in Lviv.
