Although Vidosava Kovacevic lived a short life, she was captivated by the beauty and talent that enabled her to be the eighth of one hundred and twenty candidates at the entrance exam at the School of Fine Arts in Paris. The portrait, most often made according to an academic-realistic concept, darker in color and faces accented with luminescent light, was the main theme of her painting. The Portrait of a Woman with a Hat has such characteristics. The cuddly face, painted without haste, radiates a sad mood. Judging by the lyrical character that dominates this and her other paintings, we believe that Vidosava as a person radiated tenderness, warmth and unobtrusiveness, just like this model of hers.
