Dr. Agustín del Cañizo (1876-1956), a close friend of Unamuno, completed his medical studies in Madrid and in 1905 won the chair of Pathology and Clinical Medicine at the University of Salamanca. In 1931, he moved to the Faculty of Medicine in Madrid as a full professor. A highly talented teacher and physician, with an affable character, he was one of Unamuno's most loyal friends.
