Portrait of Alexander the Great.

Alexander the Great was the son of the Macedonian King, Philip II, who conquered Athens in the mid-4th century BC. He created a vast empire and his rule marked the beginning of the Hellenistic period. Alexander is here represented with the ram’s horns of the Egyptian god Ammon and the hide of an elephant. A second century AD Roman copy of an original from the Hellenistic period.
