Alice Cardoso Pinheiro, Dionísio Pinheiro’s wife, was born on the 28th May, 1900, in Caldas da Rainha, and died on the 27th December, 1974, in Porto.
Dionísio Pinheiro and Alice Cardoso married in Porto in 1920. Known by her very unique sensitivity, Alice Cardoso Pinheiro helped her husband in selecting and acquiring the artistic treasures that we can nowadays appreciate and study in this Museum. Objects that were part of their daily life in their residence either in Avenida dos Combatentes, Porto, or in Águeda, in Rua do Adro. In the following years, Dionísio Pinheiro increased his entrepreneurial action in the Manufacturing Company of Vermoim Lda, Vila Nova de Famalicão; in Gomes and Company, Porto; and as partner of Antiquália, in Lisbon, a company devoted to the commerce of antiques.
Ricardo Navarro Poves was a neorealist painter born in Valencia, Spain, that followed a classical structure but with a modern simplification, reaching its highest point in the portrait: he could imprint the very souls of the portrayed on canvas, making them fascinating and mysterious, specially in the feminine portraits. He also painted superb landscapes of Porto and Paris. Despite being a little known artist in his home country, he had some significance in the Porto arts scene. He lived with and portrayed Dionísio Pinheiro e Alice Cardoso Pinheiro. He died in the year of 1967 in Brazil.
