SCAD Museum of Art
Savannah, United States

Cecil Beaton was an English fashion and portrait photographer known for his photographs of the British royal family as well as his work with Vogue and Vanity Fair magazines. Beaton?s portrait of artist Andy Warhol and American actress Candy Darling has the feel of a candid shot with its non-stylized setting and the relaxed poses of the subjects. It is an off-centered composition with Warhol seated in the lower left corner and Darling peeking out behind him. Her hands grip either side of his head, guiding his attention toward the camera. Warhol stares directly forward while Darling?s gaze extends outward beyond the viewer as if she is looking into a mirrored reflection. Each conveys a casual glamour with platinum blonde coiffures, stylish clothing and plump pouting lips.
