Angela Maccia Rotta (1842-1886), is not a benefactor of the Ospedale Maggiore, but the wife of a benefactor, Giuseppe Rotta who, when appointing heir of the estate to the Hospital, asks for the execution of the portrait of the wife, who died two years earlier, and his father Carlo. The portrait of Angela Maccia, assigned by the hospital administration in Amerino Cagnoni, is the subject of an exchange between painters: Cagnoni gives this commission to Gaetano Previati and in return performs what was assigned to Previati, that is the portrait of Giuseppe Lertora. The portrait of Previati will be judged by the Artistic Commission "of praiseworthy execution".
