This full-length portrait of Angelo Piazza (1862-1934) is donated to the Ospedale Maggiore by the author Anna Hirsch Piazza (known as Anna Beatrice d'Anna). The painter, a relative of the benefactor - he had in fact married his cousin Carlo - had informed the hospital in a letter of his desire to perform the portrait of the relative: he used as a model one of the private portraits (the one executed by Federico Gariboldi) that Piazza had sent to the Ca 'Granda with the inheritance. Anna Hirsch Piazza studied at the Accademia di Brera and was one of the participants, in 1924, at the "Female Portrait" Exhibition in the Villa Reale in Monza.
