These two small panels belong together. On the left is the Amsterdam merchant Jean Fontaine, who is 25, and on the right is his wife Anna Hooftman, aged 20. They had their portraits painted by Hendrick Pot on the occasion of their marriage. The two portraits are still in their original oval frames of imitation marble.
