Though best known as an artist of the gritty New York scene, George Bellows was an accomplished figural painter. This charming rendering of his eldest daughter, Anne, was one of many he painted in the last decade of his career. Bellows reportedly paid his daughters Anne and her younger sister Jean twenty-five cents an hour to pose for him, which they did frequently.
