Antonio Federico Jorini (1853-1931), a graduate in Civil Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano, first assistant, then full professor of Mathematical Analysis and Analytical Geometry in Politecnido, is appointed by numerous public bodies to participate in technical and scientific commissions. Member of the Lombard Academy of Sciences and Letters, he writes several books, including a Treatise on Bridge Construction and a Descriptive Geometry Manual. He also directs the Pesenti Specialization School for reinforced concrete constructions. In his will he appoints his wife, and a nephew as executor, he assigns 100,000 lire to the Opedale Maggiore, which commissioned the portrait to Carlo Bocca, a pupil and son of the painter Luigi. Painter of different genres, he also dedicated himself to etching; interested in color cinematography, he develops some patents and works for some time in the United States. Bocca has as a model a photograph of the benefactor and represents him in his study, sitting facing the viewer; behind him the work table cluttered with projects and, in the background, the large technical drawing of the Paderno d'Adda iron bridge.
