This work was commissioned by the chapter in 1929 as a posthumous portrait of Canon López Ferreiro, who died in 1910. The sitter is depicted in his work as a researcher and writer, at a table with books, and the meticulousness and expressiveness of the portrait stand out. The composition is related to a photograph taken in 1910 by Tito Lens for Vida Gallega, but the lines are softened and the desk is more orderly. At the bottom is a Latin inscription identifying the canon and referring to his work as a historian.
