Carlo Borella (1795-1861), an accountant with a large family, began working as an accountant at an early age. At his death he nominated the Ospedale Maggiore as heir, leaving numerous legacies for other charitable institutions (Istituto dei Ciechi, Istituto dei Sordomuti, Kindergartens of Infancy).
