Milan, Italy

Carlo Curati (1767-1822), Antonio's brother, in turn a benefactor of the Ospedale Maggiore, leaves numerous properties to the Luogo Pio. The commission of the portrait is given to Palagio Palagi, who at that time was contending with Francesco Hayez for his reputation as the most fashionable and popular portrait painter, in Milan; finding it difficult to reproduce his physiognomy due to the lack of portraits of the deceased, it is inspired by the very similar face of the surviving brother.
