Composition in black and white. Contour lines and shading. Portrait of Carlos Gomes's bust, set in a circle. The depicted faces 3/4 to right, has a long face, full head of hair combed back, broad forehead, well-marked eyebrows, small, almond-shaped eyes looking right, small, slightly upturned nose, huge mustaches that make up the on the left a comma, upper lip covered by whiskers and large, prominent chin. He wears a coat and shirt closed at the collar, with the buttons implied and wires serving as a tie. We can see everything on the left shoulder and to the right cut by the circumference where the picture is inserted. On the outsie, from the support corners, four diagonal lines, which end at the edge of the circle.

  • Function: This is the earliest work by the artist that the Portinari Project has located. The artist made this drawing in honor of the Carlos Gomes band in which his father played tuba. Inspirations for the work included a photograph of the composer and a well-known brand of cigarettes with the same name
