The Prince Regent D. João VI of Portugal, wears a medallion of the Order of the Golden Fleece, as well as medals of the three military orders, the Order of the Tower and Sword, the Order of Carlos III of Spain, and two sashes, one representing the Three Military Orders, the other the Order of Carlos III of Spain. On his hat he wears a scarlet blue sash.
According to Pamplona, the painter Delerive (1755-1818) came to Lisbon in 1792, where he created portraits, genre painting and landscapes. In 1797 he went to Spain and returned to Portugal in 1800, it was shortly after that this painting was made, which according to Cirilo was poorly executed. Despite these criticisms, the view of Campo de Ourique catches part of the valley of Alcantra and the Águas Livres Aqueduct. In the valley, crowds watch military exercises. This is an example of Delerive’s genre and landscape painting skills.
