The Orava Gallery collections include an interesting collection of historical portraits of local aristocracy part of which are presented in the permanent exhibition „Old Art 15th-19th century” in the County House in Dolný Kubín. One of them is a late Renaissance portrait of Daniel Kubíny, member one of the oldest and the most significant aristocrat family in Orava and Liptov. Author of this painting is probably Marcin Kober - Sliesian painter active in Poland, Germany and the Czech Republic, who worked in the service of several monarchs.
The painting is a unique example of a Renaissance representative portrait from the late 16th century and one of the oldest surviving specimens of this genre in Hungary. Considering to the fact that at that time the art portrait only started to develop as a separate genre, is remarkable its high artistic level and technical sophistication.
In addition to a portrait of Daniel Kubíny, Orava Gallery owns another eleven portraits of members Kubínyi family from 17th to 19th centuries.
