Composition in black and white. Lines defining contours and shading setting volume. Portrait of the artist's mother, sitting almost full body against plain background. The woman is 3/4 toward the right, has a round face, styled hair tied back, wide forehead, slight frown; we see an earring in her right ear, round eyes turned to the right, rough nose, thin closed lips and neck with a few wrinkles. She wears a V-necked dress with wide debrum down to the waist and long sleeves that cover the elbows, hands clasped and resting on her lap. On the right, suggestion of the sofa where she is seated.
