Nicknamed "the Rich", Emilio Omodeo, banker, died in 1626. Marquis of recent nobility, he came from a family who owned a food shop in the Carrobbio. In the will, he establishes that his heir, Agostino Omodei, pays 10,000 lire annually for 25 years to the Ospedale Maggiore. The painting is the first of Bernardo Ferrari's three hospital portraits, which are also his only works known today.
