Emilio Zonda (1875-1930), son of Ambrogio, wealthy industrialist of the wine branch, who had guessed the immense oenological potential of the still untapped territories of southern Italy, continuing the family business with his brother Enrico, he is addicted, with Enrico and his sister Emma to philanthropy: they decide to finance the construction of the Policlinico surgical pavilion, which still bears their name. The first commission of the portrait of Emilio is entrusted to Mario Sironi. Aldo Mazza, an artist who also works as a cartoonist and draftsman, suggested by the same benefactor. He has photograph as a model and represents it, with realism and good capacity for psychological analysis, standing in the corner of a living room of the benefactor's apartment in Milan, in Foro Bonaparte.
