Description: Jacques-Émile Blanche’s portrait of Eugenia Errázuriz (1860–1954) was executed in 1890, when the wealthy and cultured Chilean expatriate was living a relatively conventional life in Paris. She would become a muse of modernism, inspiring and supporting a host of cultural icons including Cecil Beaton, Sergei Diaghilev, Jean-Michel Frank, Pablo Picasso, and Igor Stravinsky. Blanche portrayed Eugenia as elegant and modest, fashionable but tasteful, and strikingly attractive, depicted with simplicity and grace through an understated harmony of blues, grays, and shades of white.
