Fries Museum
Leeuwarden, Netherlands

With her ringlets and white apron Frederika is a typical 19th-century schoolgirl. The recess and the sculpted windowsill indicate that Lourens studied works by 17th-century fine painters from Leiden. The recent restoration revealed her embroidered initials ‘FR’ on the corner of her apron.
