Gaetano Casati (1838-1897) graduated in medicine in Pavia and entered service at the Ospedale Maggiore, following in the footsteps of his father Guglielmo, head of the same hospital. He then becomes primary at the Santa Caterina al Ruina and publishes fundamental works on osteomalacia. In the will he appoints the Institute of the Blind as universal heir and donates the sum of 100,000 lire and the volumes of his medical library to the hospital.
