Portrait of Gauguin

Paul Gauguin is depicted in a bust-length portrait, in a meditative pose, his head resting on his hand. His other hand holds a cigarette, enhancing the intimacy of the scene, while nervous hatching sculpts the shadows. In the background, an idol and a face in profile introduce a symbolic dimension linked to his Polynesian worlds.
