Ca’ Granda – Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico
Milan, Italy

Gerolamo Veratti (1842-1899), the son of a Swiss native, inherits a substantial patrimony that is the fruit of his father's ability and great commitment in the building sector. He graduated in mathematics in Bologna and works as a construction engineer. His will includes a legacy of 80,000 lire for the Ospedale Maggiore, which commissioned the portrait from Andrea Baronchelli, at the explicit request of the benefactor, who is thus portrayed by a person who knew him in a very similar and natural way.
