Portrait of Giovanni Battista Carcano

Paolo Castelli1707

Ca’ Granda – Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico

Ca’ Granda – Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico
Milan, Italy

The Carcano family is originally from Cantù. To it belong several benefactors of the Maggiore Hospital, first of all Giovanni Pietro, considered the second founder of the Hospital after Francesco Sforza. This portrait is by Giovanni Battista, of which the hospital had another portrait, painted by Francesco Fabbrica; this probably came with the inheritance of Jerome, in turn a benefactor of the hospital and brother of Giovanni Battista.
