Giovanni Battista Pecchietto died on February 7, 1622; in 1608 he made a will in favor of the hospital, reserving the rights of a daughter. He is buried, dressed "in sackcloth" by his explicit request, in the church of San Fedele in Milan, where the Ospedale Maggiore, with 1000 of the approximately 165,000 lire it had inherited, had the architects Fabio Mangone and Francesco M. Richini build the rich Chapel of St. Ignatius. The name of the artist who performs the portrait, from the Lombard School, is unknown.
