Giuseppe Borghi (1854-1934), son of a wine merchant, owner of a textile company with his brothers, assigns a legacy of 300,000 lire in favor of the Ospedale Maggiore. The commemorative portrait is commissioned to Vittorio Gussoni, known in Milan above all as a gallerist. He makes a portrait with particular luministic effects: in the background the light is concentrated on the window, while on the character it is addressed to part of the face and on the hands, where the play of chiaroscuro has a function of plastic definition of the contours.
