Giuseppe Rotta (1832-1895), the last of eight children, with two brothers he first worked in the soap factory founded by his father, then he started his own business and diversified his business by joining in partnership with Antonio Chiodo, a cloth merchant, (in his turn benefactor of the Maggiore Hospital). in his will that he named the hospital the universal heir, he asked that portraits of his father Carlo and his own wife Angela Maccia, of whom he had become a widower two years before, be created, in addition to his own.
