Graziosa Torriani is actively involved in philanthropy, together with her husband Dante Tomasini, a successful entrepreneur, despite the humble origins and the long war spell that forces him, starting from the conflict, to start practically from scratch. In favor of the Maggiore Hospital, the two spouses donate important figures and substantial equity assets to finance the expansion of the Pavilions which will become the site of university clinics, in addition to purchasing, to distribute free of charge to the poor, 1 million doses of penicillin. The commission of the portrait of Graziosa Torriani, like that of her husband, is entrusted to Giuseppe Palanti. Both paintings are offered directly by the couple. In this painting, which constitutes the "pendant" of the portrait of her husband, the benefactor is represented as a beautiful self-confident, but not arrogant, woman in a theatrical pose, tempered by the natural and sympathetic smile; Palanti indulges, using sinuous brushstrokes with skillful technique, to bring out the softness of furs and fabrics and spreads the colors on the walls with an almost impressionistic technique. A pleasant portrait, very worldly and certainly aimed at bringing out the social status of the character.
