Yan Pei-Ming is a painter best known for portraits of historical figures, world leaders, and celebrities in his characteristic monochromatic style. Born in Shanghai in 1960, he has lived and worked in Dijon, France since the 1980s. This monumental portrait of UCCA founders Baron and Baroness Guy and Myriam Ullens de Schooten was completed shortly after UCCA opened and was first shown here as part of the exhibition "Our Future: The Guy and Myriam Ullens Foundation Collection" during the Olympic summer of 2008. It hangs today as a testament to the continued generosity of this couple, whose extraordinary passion for contemporary art in China gave rise to this institution.
