Portrait of Inaicyra Falcão

Inaicyra Falcão is a researcher and artist with a degree in Dance (UFBA), a Master’s in Theatre Arts (University of Ibadan, Nigeria), and a Doctorate in Education (USP). She holds a Habilitation (Livre-docência) in Interpretative Practices/Dance of Brazil (Unicamp) and has specialized in modern and contemporary dance as well as Afro-Brazilian traditions. She has taught at several institutions, including the University of Ibadan and Unicamp, and coordinated research groups on rituals and bodily languages. Inaicyra is the author of the book Body and Ancestry and editor of works on body and ancestry, in addition to being a lyrical singer who interprets ancestral Yoruba chants, as in the album Okan Awa. Her work combines artistic creation, ancestry, and multicultural education. She received the Milu Vilela Award from Itaú Cultural and had her project Tokunbó: Sounds Between Seas commissioned by the 35th São Paulo Biennial.
