Jedediah Strutt (1726-1792) was a hosier and cotton manufacturer who patented the Derby Rib Machine for stockings in 1758. The founder of silk mills in Derby and cotton mills at Milford and Belper, he funded and worked closely with Sir Richard Arkwright (1732-1792) who developed the first modern factories.
