Emperor Leopold II is portrayed standing in front of his throne, his right hand pointing to the imperial insignia displayed on the table beside him. He wears the regalia of the Order of the Golden Fleece. Founded in 1430, the latter is one of the oldest secular orders in Europe. Its members are appointed by the sovereign of the order, which for centuries has been the current head of the House of Habsburg.
