Florentinischer Bildhauer

Lorenzo „il Magnifico“ de’ Medici
um 1475/1500 (?). Stuck

Florentine sculptor

Lorenzo “the Magnificent” de’ Medici
c. 1475/1500 (?). Stucco

Lorenzo de’ Medici, called the Magnificent (1449-1492), was at the head of the Florentine Republic from 1469 until his death. He was also a poet, a humanist and a refined patron of the arts. In 1478, a conspiracy led by the rival Pazzi family almost took his life: from then on, Lorenzo decided to represent himself with many busts of this type, showing him as a dominating and merciless figure.
